About Us

Iowa Dance Theatre (IDT) is a leading arts non-profit organization based in Des Moines, IA. It was established in 1983 to bring performance and education opportunities to Iowa’s youth and professional dancers, and has produced many successful professional dancers. IDT is a community-based, volunteer group of people dedicated to dance in Iowa. We are a unique blend of dancers, teachers, choreographers and art enthusiasts who combine our talents to produce high-quality, artistic dance productions.

Mission

IDT is committed to bringing the talents of dance artists in Iowa to the attention of the general public. Through their participation in IDT productions, many talented young people, who’ve gone on to professional careers in dance, can look back on the vitally important early encouragement they received here. Get Involved!

There are several ways to get involved in Iowa Dance Theatre. We provide amateur dancers the experience of participating in large-scale dance productions.  Because of this, we also provide opportunities for you to attend these performances and enjoy yourself watching quality, locally-produced dance theatre.  Check the Upcoming Performances section to see what we are currently hard at work preparing for your entertainment.
