About Iowa Dance Theatre

Iowa Dance Theatre (IDT) is a non-profit organization based in Des Moines, IA. It was established in 1983 to bring performance and education opportunities to Iowa's youth and professional dancers, and has produced many successful professional dancers. IDT is a community-based, volunteer group of people dedicated to dance in Iowa. We are a unique blend of dancers, teachers, choreographers and art enthusiasts who combine our talents to produce high-quality, artistic dance productions.

IDT is committed to bringing the talents of dancers in Iowa to the attention of the general public. Our innovative approach enables us to focus on individuals with multiple and varied talents in a theatrical setting.

IDT is committed to excellence in production and presentation. Our main goal is to produce high-quality performances, both artistically and technically. We give talented people in the area opportunities to expand and perfect their abilities in performing and mastering stage technique.

IDT is committed to developing workshops and conferences throughout the year for all interested dancers in the state. We bring professional artists to Iowa to perform, instruct and choreograph.

IDT is committed to financial responsibility. Years of experience help Mary Joyce Lind, the IDT Board and other active supporters understand the dance community and the audience in Des Moines so that sound decisions can be made on productions and spending

Iowa Dance Theatre's wonderfully rich history includes involvement with the Westminster Fine Arts Series and the Donna Reed Festival. In this year's production of The Nutcracker at the Civic Center of Greater Des Moines, 180 dancers from 30 dance studios are involved. IDT holds a wide range of repertory in ballet, modern, and jazz including Snow White and Dracula, and holds the annual Tap Des Moines in downtown Des Moines, with the cooperation of many central Iowa dance studios and the Des Moines Adult Education department. IDT also hosts summer workshops and master classes, and offers choreographic opportunities and in-school residencies.
