Dracula, A Comedy Noir is a dark comedy ballet of romance and intrigue.  It follows the mysterious Dracula, Lord of the Undead, traversing times and places on the quest for his bride, Marie.  Befriended by bats and zombies, Dracula struggles between good and evil and life and death, as he pursues his love, Marie—a symbol of eternal purity and innocence.  Over centuries, Dracula courts illusion of his first true love, Marie in places such as a medieval castle, the city of Kiev, the Paris Opera, a street corner in New York, a rehearsal hall and a cabaret where finally Dracula and his entourage meets their end by the purity of unrequited love.  The Dracula story is reenacted in a fun loving finale as the cast frolics through flashbacks of the entire show in less than 5 minutes.

Iowa Dance Theatre commissioned Dracula, A Comedy Noir to add to its repertoire. 2008 year marked the 10th annual production. Janice Baker, director of the Iowa State University dance program (Iowa State Dance), is the project director for the event. She states, "The production is a valuable learning tool for the cast to truly experience what a working dancer does in understudying and rotating through multiple roles. The support that the cast members demonstrate as they peer mentor one another during the rehearsal process is a life lesson in working as a team toward a long range goal, one of the professional skills that employers value in their employees."   Ms Baker is abled assisted by Steve Nelson, Ami Yaro and Ben Rethmeier.
